Clark W. Finnerud Scholarship Fund
The Clark W. Finnerud Scholarship was established in 1973. The scholarship was initially created by Dr. Finnerud, a graduate of Rush Medical College in 1918 and faculty member from 1919 – 1942. Dr. Finnerud is remembered as a pioneer in dermatology, serving as a charter member of the American Board of Dermatology and authoring publications and textbooks that were considered seminal to the field. For many decades, the leader of the Department of Dermatology at Rush has also been appointed to an endowed professorship in Dr. Finnerud’s honor.
Notably, the Rush Medical College scholarship honoring Dr. Finnerud was endowed in perpetuity by many admirers of Dr. Finnerud, including the Carl J. Herzog Foundation, which made a significant commitment to the fund. Dr. Herzog, who passed away in 1980, was a chemist dedicated to enhancing basic and multidisciplinary research in dermatology. Founder of Duke Laboratories ? a manufacturer of bandages, dressings, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and soaps ? Dr. Herzog’s charitable foundation has generously supported dermatology departments and academic medical centers throughout the country.
