David D. Caldarelli, MD, Endowed Medical School Scholarship Fund
The David D. Caldarelli, MD, Endowed Medical School Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 by grateful patients of Dr. Caldarelli, emeritus chair holder of the Stanton A. Friedberg, MD, Chair of Otolaryngology and Bronchoesophagology and former chairperson of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Rush for 38 years.
Dr. Caldarelli received his medical degree and masters in physiology from the University of Illinois. He completed his otolaryngology residency at Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and a surgical internship at Rush, where he spent his entire career. As one of the most elite specialists in the field, Dr. Caldarelli is an expert in nasal and sinus surgery, head and neck cancer, sleep apnea and voice disorders. As an academician, Dr. Caldarelli published more than 85 peer-reviewed articles in otolaryngology journals, wrote numerous book chapters, edited a textbook on pediatric otolaryngology, served on the editorial board of two otolaryngology journals, gave numerous scientific presentations nationally and internationally, and was presented the Prestigious Honor Award by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 1999. Dr. Caldarelli educated hundreds of medical students and trained otolaryngology residents on the intricacies of ear, nose and throat care.
