Esther H. and Hans W. Lawrence, MD, Endowed Medical Student Assistance Fund

One of Rush’s most devoted and generous alumni supporters during his lifetime, Dr. Lawrence, a 1927 graduate of Rush Medical College, served most of his career as medical director for the multinational consumer goods company Procter & Gamble. Dr. Lawrence’s pride in his alma mater prompted “Doc” and his late wife, Esther, to name Rush as sole beneficiary of their estate. In 1995, at the age of 97, Doc made a generous outright gift to initiate The Esther H. and Hans W. Lawrence, MD, Endowed Medical Student Assistance Fund. Doc died the following year, leaving his assets to his beloved alma mater for the benefit of Rush students.
