Glore Nursing Scholarship Endowment

Glore Nursing Scholarship Endowment

The Glore Nursing Endowed Scholarship was established in 1994 by the late trustee, Robert Hixon Glore known as “Hixon”, and his wife, Elizabeth known as “Zibbie”. The scholarship was established in memory of Robert Hixon Glore Jr. and in honor of the Rush nursing staff who provided excellent care during his illness.

During his long and prosperous life, Mr. Glore was involved in numerous community and non-profit organizations; however, his biggest passion was Rush University Medical Center where he served on the Board of Trustees for 54 years. In 2005, he was honored with the Trustee Medal, Rush’s most prestigious award. Mrs. Glore was equally an ardent supporter of Rush, serving on the Woman’s Board for many years. Mr. Glore’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Glore, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Hixon, were engaged at Rush for many years and laid the foundation for support that the Hixons and Glores have provided for almost 100 years. The legacy continues as Mrs. Glore’s son serves on the Junior Board. Mr. and Mrs. Glore established this endowed scholarship for students in the Rush College of Nursing who have financial need. Their two children, Maude E. Glore and Frederick H. Glore, continue to provide annual support of the scholarship. In 2008, the family established the Glore Family Chair of Neonatology in honor of Dr. Larry Goodman, which supports a faculty leader within the Rush Children’s Hospital.
