Mary W. and Foster G. McGaw Rush Medical College Endowed Scholarship
The Mary W. and Foster G. McGaw Rush Medical College Endowed Scholarship was established at Rush Medical College as a result of the generosity of the late philanthropist, Foster G. McGaw, and his late sister, Frances McGaw.
Mr. McGaw founded the American Hospital Supply Corporation in 1922, which over time became the largest medical supply company in the world. It was acquired in 1985 by Baxter International.
Inspired by his father, a Presbyterian minister, Mr. McGaw strove to be an active member of his local community and engaged in philanthropic activities around the Chicago metropolitan area. When asked about the biggest factor that contributed to his company’s success, he cited their “effort to give more than we get.” To that end, the McGaw name holds significant prominence at Rush, Northwestern University and Loyola University, as well as numerous organizations in his hometown of Evanston, Illinois, which is home to the McGaw YMCA.
