Philip N. Jones, MD, Endowed Medical Scholarship

Jones, MD, then a senior attending physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center, received a generous gift from an anonymous donor. The original donor, since deceased, chose to name the scholarship the Philip N. Jones, MD, Endowed Medical Scholarship in honor of Dr. Jones.

Dr. Jones attended Stanford University for one year until he was called into active military service during World War II. While stationed at Fort Benning, he was accepted at age 20 to the Washington University School of Medicine. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 and graduated from medical school in 1948. Dr. Jones later served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953.

During his 40-year career at Rush, Dr. Jones served as the president of Rush medical staff from 1973 to 1975, was a member of the Rush University Medical Center Board of Trustees and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Over the years, many of Dr. Jones’ grateful patients and friends paid tribute to his extraordinary spirit and talent by contributing to this scholarship, which carries his name.

In addition to his well-respected medical career at Rush, Dr. Jones served other organizations in many ways. He was president of the Kenilworth School Board and the Board of Trustees at the Kenilworth Union Church, where he also sang in the choir.
