The Frank W. and Barbara J. Merrick Scholarship
The Frank W. and Barbara J. Merrick Scholarship was established in 2017 by Jessica and Paul Merrick, MD, to support students enrolled in Rush Medical College through all four years of their academic career. The scholarship honors Dr. Paul Merrick’s father, Frank Merrick, MD, who was also a faculty member and physician at Rush.
Dr. Frank Merrick joined the staff of Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Hospital in 1975 and is an emeritus member of Rush’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served in many positions at Rush, including director of the residency program in obstetrics gynecology and vice chairman of the department. He is past president of the Chicago Gynecological Society and was named Teacher of the Year several times during his tenure at Rush Medical College. He and Barbara Merrick have generously contributed to Rush, supporting research, education and patient care.
Following his father’s footsteps, Dr. Paul Merrick attended Rush Medical College and graduated in 1989. He completed residency training at Rush and served as a member of the faculty. He is now a practicing urologist and president of DuPage Medical Group, which he joined in 1994. Under Dr. Merrick’s leadership, the group has exponentially grown and includes hundreds of physicians who were educated or trained at Rush. Dr. Paul Merrick carries over the same sense of community, collaboration and relationship building he experienced at Rush at DuPage Medical Group.
Jessica and Paul Merrick, MD, continue to support this scholarship and other initiatives at Rush.
Impact
To support scholarship for one student with a $25,000 annual award from the time of matriculation throughout his/her education at Rush. Preference should be given to students from the Midwest with the highest character and commitment to missionary work who have significant financial need. The recipient must remain in good academic standing throughout their 4 years of medical school.
