The Fred H. and Marie V. Decker Scholarship
With a gift from the estate of Fred H. Decker, MD, the Fred H. and Marie V. Decker Scholarship was established to support students enrolled in Rush Medical College. Following his graduation from Rush Medical College in 1927, Dr. Decker completed an internship at Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago and subsequently pursued a two-year residency training in general medicine at a hospital in Winterset, Iowa. Dr. Decker married Marie Vivian Decker in 1928 while completing his residency training. The couple later moved to Rochester, Minnesota where Dr. Decker completed a fellowship in radiology at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. and Mrs. Decker moved to Peoria, Illinois, in 1932, where Dr. Decker practiced radiology until his retirement in 1970. During most of his 38-year career, he served as director of the Department of Radiology at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois. Dr. Decker was a well-respected physician known for being dedicated to his work and maintaining the highest standards of medical practice. He was also a member of the Radiological Society of North America and past president of the Methodist Medical Center medical staff.
Mrs. Decker died in 1981 and Dr. Decker died in 1987.
